We’re Going to Disneyworld!

This spring, I have the opportunity to have a mother & son Disneyworld trip! Master S has been waiting patiently to have his turn to go with just the two of us and now we only have 44 days to go! We are going to be staying in one of the pirate themed rooms at the Caribbean Beach Resort, which is another new hotel for us! This trip is a little bit different because we booked well within your 180 days for dining and 60 days for FastPass+ reservations; but with a little time and some patience, we were able to secure just about everything we wanted.

This trip is also different because unlike the previous two, which were ALL about the princesses and about as girly as you could get, Master S has a different perspective on how to do the Disney parks. He has requested one day in Magic Kingdom and two in Epcot because he wants to “eat around the world”. He was also very specific in making sure that we eat at Tokyo Dining and is currently lobbying to eat at Teppan Edo the next day! I’m trying to encourage him to try a different one of the many sit down restaurants in the World Showcase but we’ll see how that goes. For our time in Epcot, we booked all of our FastPass+ reservations in the morning and then will start the World Showcase with lunch. This plan works because all of our FastPass+ reservations are in the “Lands” which are in a separate section of the park. As it stands right now, the only ride with a FastPass+ available in World Showcase is Frozen Ever After and he has no desire to ride that. Also, a good thing to note is that with the exception of Norway, for Frozen Ever After, World Showcase does not open until 11am. For our one Magic Kingdom day, we are lunching at The Jungle Navigation Co. Ltd. Skipper Canteen, which specializes in Asian, African and South American flavors, another first for this trip!

Having an adventurous eater also presents the problem of whether they MUST eat off of the kid’s menu. Technically, yes- if there is one- but I have found that the majority of the cast members will still allow them to order off of the adult menu if there is something that really lights their fire. It never hurts to ask, and I guess if they won’t let him have his sushi, I’ll order of the kid’s menu!

Just because he’s a big kid, almost 10, doesn’t mean that he isn’t interested in character dining. His favorites are the classics and since we’ve eaten at Chef Mickey’s a few times, we are trying something new this time and are eating at Chip & Dale’s Harvest Feast Breakfast at the Garden Grill in Epcot. It also means that his focus is shifting and he’s more interested in taking his time to explore the details of the parks and in trying out some of the ‘bigger’ rides like Mission Space, Seven Dwarves Mine Train, and Test Track.

For your reference I have posted what our plans look like in the image below but I’ll keep you updated as they shift.

Another neat part of this visit is that we will be attending during Epcot’s Flower and Garden Festival. The festivals are always great because they present unique food and entertainment opportunities not usually found at Epcot. Since I have never taken the time to really explore this festival, I’m looking forward to giving you a front row view to this year’s special events!
